When I received an email notice that Anthony Lamb was going to be conducting a workshop in the Outer Hebrides, I jumped at the opportunity. I think I was the first one to sign up. The Outer Hebrides have always been a bucket list item and I have long admired Anthony’s photography so I looked forward to the opportunity to get to know him and work with him. Mine was an interesting situation in that I really wanted more of a tour than a workshop. (A workshop usually involves a lot of instruction by the workshop leader and is optimum for relatively new and inexperienced photographers. On the other hand, a tour is typically geared to more advanced photographers who don’t need so much help with technique as much as an insider’s view of great locations.) I emailed Anthony about it and he said he would be happy to accommodate whatever I wanted. He did exactly that: As it turned out, I did need some help with a particular technique so in the end it turned out for me to be sort of a hybrid workshop/tour. He also showed me a number of post-processing techniques I hadn’t been familiar with. The point is he was extremely flexible and was willing and able to deliver exactly what I needed. After a week in the Outer Hebrides, I ended up with some great shots, spirited camaraderie, and the ability to count Anthony as a friend. I’m looking forward to doing another workshop with him in the future.
